Installation and Design Recommendations

Are installation instructions included with the fixture?

Installation instructions are included with all Capital Lighting fixtures and are found in the orange package inside the product box. Additional instruction can be provided by contacting your local dealer or calling Capital Customer Service at 800.323.3257.

What size chandelier is recommended for my dining room?

Generally, the diameter of the chandelier should be equal (in inches) to the length plus width of the dining room (in feet).

Example: For a room measuring 12 feet x 15 feet, the fixture should have a diameter of 27 inches. (12 + 15 = 27).

An alternative sizing option is to take the width/diameter of your table and subtract 12 inches; your fixture should be this diameter.

Example: For a 48 inch round table, the fixture should have a diameter of 36 inches.

How far above my dining table should a chandelier hang?

The chandelier should hang 30 inches above the table and 12 inches narrower than the table. If the room’s ceiling is higher than 8 feet, the chandelier should be raised 2-3 inches for each additional foot of ceiling height.

How do I extend/shorten the length of my mini pendant?

Each of our mini pendants is assembled using removable, sectional rods in varying lengths. Additional rods can be purchased through a Capital Lighting dealer.

My fixture takes a 60-Watt bulb. Can I use a higher wattage for brighter light?

No. You may use less wattage, but never more. Proper wattage is labeled on all fixtures.

Is my fixture compatible with a dimmer?

Yes and using dimmers will increase the life of the fixture’s bulbs and provide more illumination versatility. Please note that depending on the type of light bulb you are using (incandescent, compact fluorescent, or LED) in your fixture, that a compatible dimmer will need to be selected. Please contact the light bulb manufacturer or your local lighting showroom for more information on light bulbs and dimmer compatibility.

What is the difference between “damp location” and “wet location” rating?

“Damp” indicates an area in which the fixture will have indirect contact with moisture or humidity (bathrooms, garages). “Wet” indicates an area in which the fixture may have direct contact with the elements and is able to withstand substantial moisture, such as snow and rain (outside and breezeways).

Can I mount a mini pendant on a sloped ceiling?

Yes. All mini pendants come with mounts and chain compatible with any ceiling grade.
